Olivia's obituary appeared in the (Hopkinsville) Kentucky New Era:
Mrs. Olivia Thompson Breathitt, widow of the late Judge James Breathitt, Sr., died at the residence at 1720 South Virginia Street about 7:30 this morning following a cerebral hemorrhage suffered last Friday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning at the grave in Riverside Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Dr. William S. Bolles, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
Mrs. Breathitt, who would have been 90 years old had she lived until January, was born in Cadiz, the daughter of George V. and Olivia Ellis Thompson. She moved to Hopkinsville as a child. Mrs. Breathitt was a long-time member of the Methodist Church here and for a number of years was active in church, as well as civic, life in Hopkinsville. A graduate of old South Kentucky College on Belmont Hill, she married Judge Breathitt on Dec. 19, 1889. In recent years Mrs. Breathitt had lived a quiet home life although maintaining an intense interest in her children.
Survivors include two sons, Edward T. Breathitt of Hopkinsville and Robert E. Breathitt of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. T. M. Funk of Lynchburg, Va., and Miss Louise Breathitt of this city; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding Mrs. Breathitt to the grave were two sons, James Breathitt, Jr. and John Breathitt, and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Stites.
