The Thompson Book:
George Venable Thompson was universally known as "Ben" Thompson because of the faulty pronunciation of the abbreviated "Ven" by the baby members of his family.
Mr. Thompson engaged in the tobacco business [in Hopkinsville] with his son, Benjamin, the firm name being George V. Thompson & Son.
George Venable Thompson came to Hopkinsville in 1863 and has since been a resident of the town, and engaged in the leaf tobacco commission business. He is an honored member of the A.F. and A.M., and both he and his wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
