Regarding Rebecca Lucas.
From Toby Williams: Email dated Wed, 01 Mar 2000 14:11:43 -0500 - In 1860 in Jersey, Illinois, Jane Williams was living with a Rebecca Lucas (about 35 years old), her son George Sanford, and an infant Lucas. It appears that Rebecca first married a Sanford, and then married a Lucas in 1858, although this man is not in the 1860 census. I do not know whether this is Jane's daughter or not, but believe it to be so. I also do not know whether her second husband died soon after marriage or if he was elsewhere trying to do something.

Also, for what it is worth, Thomas Edwards' wife was Nancy Sanford (married on Dec 29, 1836 (when she was quite young), probably a sister to Rebecca Lucas' first husband. First, the Sanfords are living with Jane in 1860, and then Jane is living with the Sanfords (Edwards) in 1870.

His mother was named Jane - although I have been unable to find a maiden name for her - and she was born in Ohio in 1802/3 (I have a photocopy of a note she gave to the county authorities in Jersey County, Illinois, allowing her son to get married before reaching the age of 21.) His mother was apparently illiterate, and the note appears to have been written by someone else, I am guessing a local magistrate named Tillotson.

- James appears to have had several siblings, including an older brother named William, who was born in about 1828, and was married before 1862. It looks like there was another younger brother, and probably at least two or three sisters.

Jane is buried near Martha Jane (Billings) Hampton Clark (d.1883) and her son Silas Clark and near Catharine (Hampton ) (d.1880)who was the daughter of Martha Jane & the wife of Ezekial Fuller (d.1885).

The Cemetery transcription for Jane's headstone is probably incorrect. It should be 1886. I believe 1885 is a missread on an old stone. The death register, in Macon County, says 1886. It give her

Due to the relationships of the people buried above, it could be that James and Mary Louise Hampton Billings were taking care of these burials.
