Misc. Notes
I believe this Henry is listed, for the first time, in Trow’s NY City directory of 1858/59 as: Shaphoff Henry B jr, police, h 668 Water, certainly it wasn’t his father or his son Henry who was only born about 1835.

Henry’s Death Certificate from the City of New York, No. of Certificate: 1107
Henry Shaphoff died at Webb. His parents information is listed as unknown. They stated his occupation as Shipbuilder. He is listed as 73 y 1mo 4 dys. That makes his birth date from the 1900 Census a year off. So he was either born in 1829 or the math is incorrect. I’m betting the math is wrong but we will probably never know.
The Funeral Director was G. W. Howie on Fordham, the best I can read it.

Just in case:
A “Caulker” filled up cracks (in ships or windows) or seams to make them watertight by using tar or oakum-hemp fiber produced by taking old ropes apart.
