Michael and his brother Matthias BITZER emigrated from Germany and sailed on the ship "Forest", [Captain Patrick Ouchterlong] from Rotterdam, Netherlands, to Portsmouth on October 10, 1752. Michael was 18 years old and Matthias was 16 years old. Michael was naturalized as Michael PITZER by the Supreme Court at Philadelphia, in Leacock Township, Lancaster County, PA. In 1765, when he was 31 years old, Michael moved to Beaver County, PA, where he received land for service in the Revolutionary War. According to the records of the late Madeline Griffith of Martinsburg, WV, Michael's first wife was Sophia Scharlotta Boshaar, christened on March 28, 1740 in New Holland, Leacock Twp.,Lancaster Co., PA. Michael had several children of which his son, Michael Pitzer, built a home and resided in Gerrardstown in Berkeley County, West Virginia. Matthias also moved to Berkeley County and resided there until his death in 1816.
