------

According to his death certificate in 1947 he had been in California 49 years placing his arrival here in 1898. He is listed in the 1900 Census with his mother and step-father in Cleveland, Ohio. We don’t know, perhaps he was there on an extended leave.
---

William was in the Army and moved to California. He married his first wife, Lizzie, about 1901 and was sent to Texas for a short time where Ruth was born. According to family history, they then returned California where Pearl was born. Three years later his wife died (of heart failure according to the death certificate) he gave the children to their grandparents and as near as I can tell, saw them no further.
---

William R. Ollom applied for his pension Feb 3, 1923. He served in the following units of the military:
F 3 US Art – B 18 US Inf – D 12 US Cav – 3 Rut Co, Gen Serv US Inf

His daughter Ruth (my Grandmother) thought he served in the cavalry. I located a card file for Oak Hill cemetery at the Santa Clara library and he is listed as a Sargeant in the 12th Cavalry.
---

He started a second family with Bertha Ackerson. I don’t know when they were married. Roberta H., born in 1913, is the first child I can locate for that marriage.
---

The census of 1920 for Santa Clara Co., CA lists his occupation as a Free “something” and worked for someone else for wages. Can’t read the “something”.
---

I don’t have any particular thoughts regarding the missed moments in time. Will Ollom lived less that 50 miles from his daughters, from his first marriage, until he died in 28 Oct 1947. He died in Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, the same hospital that his great grandaughter, Penny, was born in 3 years earlier. His daughter, Ruth, was living on a ranch over looking Niles and Fremont in 1947.
