I think the "Sen" means Senior but I have seen him listed with the abbreviation "Sen" and as "Senator".

son James W.'s biography:
James W. Gasaway, Retired farmer, was born July 29, 1818, in Ross Co., OH He is a son of John Gasaway, farmer and native of Frederick County, Va., who married Catherine Anderson of the same county. They settled in 1810 on the Scioto bottoms in Ross County among the pioneers. Nine children were born to them.

John Jr. is listed on the same page (1840 census) but I'm not sure if that is this John's son.

John, age 70, is listed with his son James M. Gassaway on page 172 in the 1850 Census of Scioto, Ross Co., OH.
