Letter, submitted to the Neuembuerg OA authorities, to Emmigrate to America:
[It is these letters that were extracted and make up the Wuerttemberg Immigration Index.]

This letter doesn't add much to our understanding of the family. I didn't ask Ruth Froelke to translate it verbatium. So from memory:

In the application for emigration to America Erhard gave up his own citizenship that of his wife and all of the children, his own children and that of George Friedrich Dittus, his stepson. As was customary, he promised not to make war against Wuerttemberg for a period of time (1year). Meaning he wouldn't join an army opposing Wuerttemberg.

In the letter he also gives "power of attorney" to Jacob Friderich Rexer for any unfinished business regarding his property.

According to Biographical Record of Logan Co., IL in an article about stepson Frederick Dittus:
Erhardt Stoll, who in 1847 brought his wife and her children to the new world, crossing the Atlantic in a sailing vessel, which completed the voyage in forty-seven days. Arriving in New York, they proceeded directly by steamboat, canal and wagon to Springfield, Illinois and in the spring of 1848 removed to Logan county, locating in Laenna twnship, where Mr. Stoll purchased eighty acres of land. He added to this place until he had two hundred acres at the time of his death which occured in 1860. His wife survived him and continued to make her home on the old farm until called to her final rest.

Mary Agnes Rentschler Dittus was a widow with her son, Fred Dittus, when she married Erhardt. Fred came with them to Illinois. They came to the US in 1847. They sailed to NY and then went by steamer and wagon to Springfield Illinois. They moved to Chestnut, Illinois in 1848 where they had purchased 80 Acres, Sect 4, Laenna Twp, Logan Co., Ill

Around the time of Erhard's arrival in the Sangamon and then Logan County, The community of Mount Pulaski was being established. The blacksmiths set up a small shop immediately on their arrival, in which they sharpened hoes and plow-points, and made other instruments used by the frontier settlers. The plows then had only a wooden mould-board, and attached to the plow-point was an iron shoe, in which a socket was made for the insertion of the wooden plow-point. The corn was generally cultivated with the hoe and a single corn -plow.
