Matthew STOLL, section 4, Laenna Township, was born in the Kingdom of Wuerttemberg, Germany, March 6 1844. He was reared a farmer, a vocation he has always followed with success, and now owns 340 acres of valuable land. He pays special attention to stock-raising, his cattle being of the improved grades. Mr. Stoll was married February 11,1868 to Mary GELBACH daughter of Jacob GELBACH. She died in October 1873, leaving two children -- Jacob and Cicilia. March 30 1875, Mr. Stoll married Christina, daughter of Jacob VOLLE of Springfield, Illinois. They have had four children but three of whom are living -- Minnie, George and Frederick. Mr. and Mrs. Stoll are members of the Lutheran church.

1. Matthew and Christina Volle Stoll, mother's maternal grandparents. Christina was apparently born in Kentucky, but her parents came to Springfield, IL in the early 1850s when she was a baby. Her 2 brothers and 2 sisters were born in Springfield. Matthew (Matthias) was born in Maisenbach, Wuerttemberg (now part of Germany) and came to US with his family at age 3 in 1847. Christina was his second wife. The first, Mary Gehlbach, died after 2 children, Cecelia (Mrs. George Schaffenacker), and Jacob. Matthew and Christina had 4 living children: Minnie (Mrs. Louis Rentschler), George J., Fred W. and Otto M.
