1900 Federal Census of Monroe County, Troy Township. City of Albia, Dwelling 52. Sheet 3,line 8, page 133A, shows the family of Veronica and James Herbert. The census shows J.E. Herbert, Head of household, white, male, date of birth as Sept 1855, age 44 yrs, 0 number years married, that he was born in the state of Iowa, his father was born in the state of Ohio, his Mother was born in the state of Pennsylvia. James's occupation was a coin traveler, and that they owned their home.
1905 State Census of Albia, Monroe County, Iowa, card number 396, postoffice East Jefferson Street, township of Troy, City of Albia. Shows that James Herbert was 50 years of age, he owned his home, value of his home $2000, that he owed $800 on his home and had only lived in th e state of Iowa for 6 years, which would have been 1899 the same year he married Veronica McClain. His occupation is shown as a traveling man. I did not find James Herbert in the 1910 Federal Census or the 1915 State Census of Monroe Iowa. I did not check the soundex of either census.
Marriage license of James Herbert and Veronica Mc Clain can be located in Monroe County Marriage record #10 license 5838, page 13. The marriage states that both are over the age of 21 yrs, that the license was issued on the 28th of Sept 1899 and returned on the 28th of Sept 1899 , that the marriage was performed by J.F. Abigglen, Justice of the Peace.

James is possiable the son of Seth and Ann Herbert of Washington Twp, Columbianna County, Ohio. If this information is correct James died 2 Feb 1940 at Washington Township Columbiana County, Ohio and was born 4 Dec 1854. He is burried at Woodland Cemetery, Salineville, Washington Twp, Ohio. He married first Ethel Evans on 5 July 1881 Columbiana County, Ohio.
