Makes reference to this William IV, being Married to Elizabeth Skipwith. This is wrong.
It is William V that married Elizabeth and from that marriage was born the Minister to Hague and he (the Minister to Hague) never married and had no issue.
TIDEWATER FAMILIES of VIRGINIA ,pp. 547
William Short (IV) was the elder son of William and Susanna Short and was the fourth generation in Virginia to carry the name. He must have been born in Surry County in Southwark Parish. He married Martha and they had children: William, Sarah, Mary and Martha Short, as named in their grandfather’s will.
William inherited the plantation on which his father lived which was apparently “Spring Garden”. In the account of the Short family by Mr. Kornwolf, he was not able to distinquish among the generations of William Short. This William Short was the fourth generation. His son, William, the fifth, was presumably the one who fought in the Revolutionary War and atained the rank of Colonel.
