Notes for William Cocke (Grandfather)
1 WILLIAM COCKE came to Surry County, Va., in 1690 and was a justice of that county in 1699. He was one of several brothers who came to Virginia during that period. His wife was named Mary and their children were:
i Nicholas Cocke.
ii Richard Cocke.
iii Thomas Cocke.
iv William Cocke, married Anne Flood.
v Mary Cocke, married John Spratley.

2 NICHOLAS COCKE (William), married Elizabeth Holt, daughter of Captain Thomas Holt and Frances Mason4 (see No. 4-iv in Duke-Mason lineage, page 46 ante). Nicholas Cocke died in 1748.
Their children were:
i William Cocke, married Sarah Short, daughter of William and Martha Short.
ii John Cocke
iii Frances Cocke, married (???) Simmons.
iv Anne Cocke, married John Waddrop (see 3d, page 51).
v Elizabeth Cocke, married John Peter, Scotch merchant at Cabin Point, Surry County, Va.
