exerpt: a book ... called "Make Tracks to Latham" which is a wonderfully well done history of the town.
". . . the area soon to be named Latham was laid out on the lands owned by Edwin A. Joynt and Lemuel Parrish. Parrish came here from Jersey County around 1849, as did Fred Joynt. E. A. Joynt followed in 1852, with both brothers coming from London, England." ". . Fred married Margaret Parrish. Her brother was Lemuel, so Fred and Lemuel were brother-in-laws."

Silas Clark is mentioned in a letter I have written April 7th 1878 from Mary Ann Joynt in England to her youngest son Augustus Henry Joynt in Illinois. She says her grandson Charles Evan Joynt is currently with Silas Clark "Charlie is not with his uncles but with a young man Evan once took to ____as he calls it (called Silas Clark)."
----

From Toby Williams:
Silas Clark then came up before 1873 - I am guessing 1855-9, and had 80 acres about a mile and a half north of Latham, where his mother eventually moved, and where he had about 14 children, all but two or three of which died before about five years of age. Jane Billings watched at least two husbands, a couple of kids, several step-kids, and a large number of grandchildren die; not a person I envy.
