Misc. Notes
eMail from Nancy:
I "inherited" LeRoy Phillips from one of the members of the Stites family who did research and gave his name to my mother. In the book, Kentucky Land Grants" by Jillson, I found LeRoy as a grantee of 100 acres on 5/25/1825 in Livingston Co., KY on Clay Lick Creek. There is no mention of a Dabney in Jillson's book.
In an e-mail from Joe Shoemaker in response to a message I left on Genforum, he says< "This is what I have on Martha ann Phillips Hunt Patterson, born 1806 in Virginia, died August 6, 1864 in Livingston, Co., KY, buried Pippin Cemetery, Salem, KY. Parents: LeRoy and Melinda Dennis. LeRoy died in Boone Co., MO. His will recorded in Livingston co., KY, Feb. 1845, names wife Melinda and daughter, Martha Ann Patterson.
Martha Ann Patterson married first, Wilson A. Hunt, born Sept. 21, 1792 in city of Dublin, died June 26 1833., Christian Co., KY., buriedPeppin Cem, date of May 21, 1824. Issue: Elizabeth Married John Stites, 9/03/1849, Dorsey m. ? Smedley, James b. 8/25/1825, died 9/5/1859, unmarried, buried in Peppin Cem.. River boat captain between Nashville and Cairo, ILl, 2nd married Jessie Patterson (my 2nd great grandfather, born1798, died 1841, Livingston Co., , buried Peppin Cem.
Martha's will dated12/1836 names son Jesse, dau Betty Stites, gr-dau Julia Smedley, Dorsey Smedley, John Stites and Julia Stites. Wants son William's body to be brought home and laid by his father at Wood's Place. This is what I have, let me hear from you. "
You have to read this carefully as it is mixed up, but the essentials are there. Now the problem is: who were the parents of Leroy Phillips and wife, Melinda Dennis?
