The Thompson Book:
Sarah Steele and Douglass Baker had three children; all of them moved to Kentucky with their mother and stepfather, James Thompson. The Baker children were Robert, Alexander, and Elizabeth.

Robert and Alexander inherited 800 acres of land from their father's estate in Prince Edward County. The brothers sold this land in 1814 and used the proceeds to establish themselves as merchants and hotel keepers in Cadiz, where James and his family moved in 1814.

Robert Baker married Frances Redd in Cadiz on December 5, 1823. Frances, who was born April 14, 1802 and died January 29, 1829, is buried in the Redd Burying Ground, east of Cadiz. Robert was a wealthy merchant, hotel-keeper, and the owner of a successful sawmill and gristmill on Little River. Robert's son Robert D. Baker also grew rich in the merchant's trade in Cadiz. According to Cyrus Thompson, Robert D. Baker moved to Louisiana in the 1860s.

Alexander Baker married Catherine F. Monday in Essex County, Virginia, in September, 1831. Alexander was also one of Cadiz' early hotel keepers. He and Catherine had three children: Charles D., James E., and Lucy Ella. Catherine and two of her children were still operating a hotel in 1870, according to that year's Trigg County census. Alexander also served in the War of 1812; on June 1, 1878 Catherine applied for a widow's pension based on this service (The Kentucky Genealogist, volume 11, page 62). Catherine's pension file lists her death date as October 3, 1878. She and Alexander, who was born December 19, 1793 and died April 2, 1867, are buried in East End Cemetery, Cadiz.

Elizabeth Baker was called "Betsy Helm" Baker, no doubt in honor of her grandmother. Betsy was born February 16, 1790 in Campbell County. On November 6, 1806 she married William Carson in Logan County. In 1822 William and Betsy moved to Trigg County. Their homestead was located about three miles west of Cadiz on present-day Highway 68. Betsy died August 3, 1834. She and William, who was born February 17, 1772 in Bedford County, Virginia and died on New Years Day 1856, are buried in the William Carson Cemetery. The Carsons had eleven children, one of whom, Douglass Baker Carson, moved with some of James Thompson's descendants to Chappell Hill, Texas.
