King of England, 1154-1189. Also b. 25 MAR 1133. Henry was the founder of the Plantagenet Dynasty. The long controversy with Thomas a Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, led to Becket's murder in the Cathedral. His Queen, Eleanor, bore him three daughters and five sons, two of whom became kings, Richard and John. Eleanor became estranged from Henry II because of his infidelity with Rosamund. In 1170 she established her own Court at Poitiers. There she supported her sons Richard and John in their revolt against Henry and was, thereafter, imprisoned by her husband for many years. She ultimately was successful in seeing that they (the two sons) became kings. During Richard the Lionhearted's captivity while on the Third Crusade, it was she who collected his ransom. A colorful, strong woman.
