Misc. Notes
The name Fabich (or Fabisz) appears to be of Polish origin and seems to be based on the Latin name Fabianus. It was common to take the parents first name extract the first few characters and suffix it by adding isz or ich which means (roughly) “son of”. This method of name contruction was called Patronymics and was used in the 12 & 13 Centuries. In the 14 centuries, Surnames started being used and passed down by the Slavs. In 1990, there were 479 Fabichs and 553 Fabiszs living in current day Poland. This is according to Kazimierz Rymut in his book Nazwy Miast Polski.

The 1935 and 1936 San Francisco Directories list a Hattie Fabish (wid John) as living with William and Frances Schneider. If this is Hedwig (she died in 1936 and is buried with Frances), they appear to think her husband’s name was John. Using the German naming convention, he may have been named Johan Ignadz. In this case, all legal records would have been under Ignadz (his secular name) and the first name would simply link him to his patron saint - most male children were named John something using this convention.

The children appear to have been named according to the Polish / Ukraninia convention of picking the closes Saint’s Feast day and naming the child after that saint (at least this works for Antonie and Bruno who are the only two I know the birth month for).

Siemianowice
In 1334 Siemianowice was mentioned in a document as the village of Sancovicz.

On March 22, 1451, the village of Seymanovicze was mentioned in a document by Bernard Opolski.

At the beginning of the 17th century, the Miroszewskis were the owners of Siemianowice. In 1692, a German nobleman from Bohemia, Hunter von Grandon, buys the goods from Stanisław Miroszewski. After the extinction of the Opole Piasts, Bytom and its vicinity came into the possession of the Hohenzollerns, from 1629 counts von Henkel.

In 1701 the Catholic line of von Donnersmarck received hereditary rights under a patent.

In 1718 the Siemianowice-Bango estate became the property of the counts Henkel von Donnensmarck. Somewhat later, the dukes of Hohenlohe-Ohringen bought the goods from Klochów along with the settlement of Wełowiec.

In 1819, coal mining developed in Siemianowice. In 1820, the mines in Siemianowice and the surrounding area employed about 130 miners, and at the end of the century this number exceeded 4,000.

In the 50s of the 19th century a narrow-gauge railway was built. In 1861, a design for a standard-gauge railway line between Bytom and Szopienice was developed and completed in 1870. A weekly fair has been held since 1839. From 1871, there was a separate post office in Simianowice.

In Siemianowice there was the administration of industrial goods of the Donnermarks (Siemianowitzer Oberschlesien General Gütter, Bruben- und Hütten-Direction), the management of Vereinigte Siemianowitzer Steinkohlengrube and Vereinigte Königs- und Laurahütte.
Siemianowice Śląskie includes the areas of former villages and mining settlements: and metallurgical settlements: Siemianowice, Michałkowice, Bytkow, Przełajka, Srokowiec, Grabie, Jakubowice, Bańgów, Sadzawki, Hugo, Neu Berlin, Georgshutte, Laurahütte.
