William J. Ollom
William J. Ollom was born December 3, 1897 at Clarington, Ohio. Helen Mae (Eckels) Ollom was born August 22, 1901 at Mew Martinsville, West Virginia (Wetzel County). They were married May 27, 1920 by Rev. George L. Davis at Woodsfield, Ohio.
Children of this union: Bettuy Lee Ollom (Adamski) born January 25, 1922; Ruth Irene Ollom (Whitlatch) born July 16, 1924; Robert Thomas Ollom, born April 25, 1927; Donald Oscar Ollom born January 6, 1932 (all born at Clarington, Ohio; all delivered by Dr. Clifford Smith of Clarrington).
We lived all our lives in Clarington, Ohio, and could always see the Ohio River and boats that traveled the beautiful Ohio River. My father worked on packets boats till 1923 when he secured work on the new Government Lock 14 between Clarington and Powhatan until his death July 13, 1952.
The railroad and a new Route 7 highway took our homeplace. We four children married and moved to distant places and raised our families. My parents are both laid to rest in Clarington Cemetery along old Route 7. I also have great grandparents (Adam Ollom) in Rutter Cemetery along old Route 78 going to Woodsfield. My husband and I live in Powhatan Point, Ohio. When someone askes me where I live I always say I live in Belmont County, but my heart is in Monroe County. Submitted by Betty Adamski.
