For the record, York county was the original shire with Yorktown as the county seat. New Kent was formed from York in 1654 with New Kent as county seat. King & Queen County was formed from New Kent in 1691.

Record: "Order of the Council of State, May 28, 1651":
"That the petition of Abraham Palmer and Thomas Webber being now read, it is ordered that they have liberty to trade to Virginia upon security given in the Court of the Admiralty that they shall not trade with the enemies of the state of Virginia nor give assistance to them. and that letters of a private man of war to be given to them to do service to the Commonwealth,"

Court Orders 1687-1695 Charles City County, page 163: "At Court Holden at Westover 4th November 1693, mention, in a confession of judgement of John Pleasant to William Byrd, Esq., of Tho. Webber, Commander of the 'Merchants Adventure' (a ship)."

From Cavaliers and Pioneers, patent book No. 5, page 512: "Granted by Nich. Goodall, 300 acres James City County, June 30, 1664, on East side of Chickhomeny River N.W. on Taylor's Neck, 300 acres to 3 persons, including Thomas Webber." Is this the same Thomas Webber?
