Bill attended San Francisco State University and graduated with Bachelor Degrees in both Mathematics and Computer Science. While at SFSU, Bill worked as a teacher’s aid running the computer lab for the School of Mathematics. He earned extra money by working as a projectionist at University of California at San Francisco and as assistant manager of the local Radio Shack Store where he discovered that neither of these jobs was particularly challenging nor profitable.

Upon graduation, Bill went to work for Central Bank of California as a Computer Programmer. He worked there for 7 years, where he was part of the team that replaced the teller’s ledgers sheets with online computer terminals and enabled Bank customers to access their accounts using ATMs for the first time. After leaving the Bank, Bill worked for McKesson Corporation, where his career was directed into Information Security. There he architected the approach McKesson would use to interact with the Internet. In 2003 McKesson decided that people in California “got paid to much” and eliminated 250 positions from their work rolls in California in favor of other states (Bill’s was one of those positions), so off he went to work at Critical Path as an Information Security Engineer - same job, same pay, nearly the same location - go figure. A few years later Critical Path decided to close the SF office, so once again it was time to change jobs and Bill found himself working as a Network Security Engineer for GeoVera Holdings inc. and for the first time in 30 years driving to work (only 20 minutes away) rather than taking BART into the City.
