His wife was Hallie E. Carter, b--1807, Caroline Co., Va.; m--1826, d--............, buried same Church. Her father was Philip Henry Carter, m--1803 to his cousin, Elizabeth Carter. She was dau--of James Carter, b--1729, Stafford Co., Va. (Leasehold property was in King George Co., Va., which he rented to George Strother, 1758.) He m--Rachel ............? possibly Spottswood Carter of Caroline Co., Va. James Carter was son of James Carter who was b--Christmas day, 1684, at Barford, in Lancaster Co., Va.; m--1724. Will recorded in Stafford Co., Va., 1743; in Overwharton Parish. His wife was Mary Brent; record is in Prayer Book in Carter family. She was dau--of Hugh Brent of Lancaster Co., Va. Their son was Capt. Thomas Carter, b--Va., 1630; m--1670. Memb. House of Burgesses, 1680; d--1700, age 70. He m--Katherine Dole, b--1652. She d--1703, age 51. (See Colonial Dames Register, p. 455.) Maj. Ed. Dale, b--in Eng., 1628, d--in Va., 1695. Memb. House of Burgesses, 1677-1782; was Maj. in Lancaster Militia, 1680. With this lineage ... to this point, the Delano, Carter alliances merged into the Skipwith family, through m-- to Diana Skipwith, youngest dau--of Sir Henry Skipwith, Bart.; m--Maj. Edward Dale, 1652-1662. He was first clerk of Lancaster and Westmoreland Cos., Va. In the book by Dr. Miller, "Capt. Thomas Carter" Family, there is a portrait of this fine old gentleman. The parents of Diana Skipwith were Sir Henry Skipwith, First Baronet of "Prestwould", created title 1622. He was a poet and man of letters. Commissioned by Charles 1st to raise troops against the Parliament forces under Cromwell. Sir Henry m--Amy Kempe, dau--of Sir Thomas Kemp (Knight). Sir Henry was son of Henry Esq. and Jane Hall, who was only son of Sir Wm. Skipwith of Ornsby, by his 2nd wife, Alice Dymoke, dau--of Sir Lionell Dymoke of "Scrivelsby". Descendant of King Henry III of Eng. Descent through these lines comes to both paternal and maternal lineages--John and James Carter. Thus the right to the Noble Order of the Crown--Mrs. Cora Delano-Mason. DELANO--Cornelius Delano, b--1744, m--Sarah Peterson, 1734, dau--of Isaac, who m--Lydia Drew Delano, dau--of Samuel and Ruth Delano, who in direct line from John Alden or Aldin of the Mayflower.
